Business interests threaten the integrity of Florence, art capital of the world

We are Italians and non-Italians who live in the historic centre of Florence.
The city is being taken over day by day by powerful economic interests, which are slowly destroying the very fabric of our city.
A small but symptomatic episode drove us to do something about it: the opening of the Roberto Cavalli Club in the historic Piazza del Carmine - where the basilica with the famous cycle of paintings by Masaccio, Masolino and Filippino Lippi stands.
The Club, run by the son-in-law of the well-known designer, set up a monumental steel porch to frame the entrance, taking over the last open space in the area: a space where the children who attend the kindergarten in front used to be able to play freely and safely. The town government granted permission, paying no attention to complaints by the local residents and by parents of the children.
The parents of the kindergarten got together, not just to fight the invasion by the Cavalli Club, but to do something to make Florence a more livable city for all. Everybody who loves Florence is welcome to lend us a hand.
